![]() released ten albums, including their latest, Let the Bad Times Roll, in 2021. The Offspring have sold over 40 million records worldwide. Explaining the rationale behind the massive purchase, Round Hill chairman and CEO Josh Gruss said, “We have some masters like the Bush catalog and records from developing artists like London Souls and Nigel Hall, but we wanted more exposure and you won’t get a more high-quality catalog than The Offspring.” He also noted that his label didn’t have any American punk rock in their publishing portfolio and this this move “helps broaden the genre representation. Modern Big Band Album Highlights Quincy Jones This Is How I Feel About. The Offspring’s third album, 1994’s Smash, was one of the biggest-selling albums ever released on an independent label at that time. The acquisition will qualify as Round Hill’s biggest to date, though a similar deal for the song catalog of Big Loud Shirt Industries might also reach the $35 million mark. The band’s best-selling record, 1994’s Smash, remains owned by Epitaph Records, but Round Hill Music has reportedly acquired publishing rights to the songs on Smash and the band’s earlier Epitaph albums. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Billboard claims that the New York-based record label now owns the rights to the band’s Columbia Records master recording catalog, which includes six studio albums and one greatest hits album. As Billboard reports, Round Hill Music has acquired The Offspring’s catalog of recorded masters for an estimated $35 million. The list includes tracks from each of the Offspring's studio albums The Offspring (1989), Ignition (1992), Smash (1994), Ixnay on the Hombre (1997), Americana (1998), Conspiracy of One (2000), Splinter (2003), Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008), Days Go By (2012) and Let the Bad Times Roll (2021). Now, the So Cal rockers stand to get a whole lot richer. The pop-punk band’s impressive numbers to date back that up, with nearly 17 million units sold in the U.S. All in all, Days Go By is more for fans who have been with the band for a while than those just tuning in, and while die-hard Offspring followers will be able to see the shift in the band's sound as part of a logical progression, new listeners would be better served by checking out some of their earlier, more urgent work.It seems you couldn’t go anywhere in the late ‘90s without walking face-first into an Offspring song, be it Smash hit “Come Out and Play” or Ixnay on the Hombre’s “Gone Away”. Even though these missteps don't completely ruin the album, they seem over-produced and unnecessary amidst what is an otherwise well-crafted record. "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" was corny back in 1998, making songs like "Cruising California (Bumpin' in My Trunk)" and "OC Guns" even harder to swallow 14 years later. While this kind of maturity is not only welcome, but expected, Days Go By also has moments that seem as if the Offspring might be starting to show their age a bit. While other parts of the album don't quite have the same adult contemporary punk feeling, the songs are generally more melodic and grown-up. A similar vibe courses through "All I Have Left Is You," which switches back and forth between smoothed-out verses and big, guitar-heavy choruses, like a much more adult version of the band than fans might have ever heard previously. "Days Go By" seems like punk rock tailor-made for fall weather with its meditations on the impermanence of youthful anger, as if the Offspring are offering some sage advice for those coming up after them. Though the band still maintains the same driving, hooky sound that it's always had, the album feels less aggressive and more wistful and yearning. 14, the date Columbia will issue the Offspring's new album, 'Conspiracy Of One.' The sweepstakes prize money is being given away directly by the band. After nearly three decades of making sunny California skatepunk, the Offspring get autumnal with their reflective ninth album, Days Go By.
